Hearths and Special Interest Groups

The Kith of Yggdrasil has two active hearths at present and two Special Interest Groups. Hearths are the foundation of the Kith, aiming to bring together followers of our faith within particular areas for the development of their spiritual life and the building of our religious community. Some members of the Kith are not actively associated with a hearth however, because of their geographical location.

A Special Interest Group is a different kind sub-grouping within the Kith which enables members who share a particular interest to pursue it collaboratively with other members regardless of location or whether they are actively associated with a hearth

Hearths

Joining up with a hearth is not compulsory for Kith members and can be difficult for some because we are a scattered band. It is highly recommended if it is possible, however, since each hearth has its own programme of activities including regular Blot ceremonies. Details of hearth activities are published regularly in Sunwheel or Frostfire and we are always happy to help new members make contact with their nearest hearth.

We hope that the number of hearths and associated activities will grow as our membership increases. The Kith's policy is always to encourage such activities for the benefit of its members but we accept that not everyone wishes to observe their faith in a communal way, or is able to travel far to attend a meeting. We also accept that even where there are sufficient members near enough together to support a hearth, work and time are involved in running even the smallest of organisations.

Special Interest Groups

Our current Special Interest Groups are concerned with the practice of  mystic working and parenting.

The Mystic Working Group

We are setting up a study group for members of the Kith, to help in developing our understanding of the mystical side of the Odinic Heathen path. Presently the group is under the chairmanship of Steve Davies and he is supported by Alan and Freya Nash.

Firstly what do we mean by the mystical side?

This could include such things as runic studies, meditation practices at various levels, and looking at some of the more advanced practices of seidr and galdr. Under this heading come such activities as talismanic working, magical practices associated with the Odinic Heathen path, healing, and working within wyrd.

This isn’t an exhaustive list of the activities, but we hope it will give an indication of the range of interests the group is seeking to support within the Kith of Yggdrasil.

There is also the deepening relationship we can develop with Gods, Goddesses and the other beings of Heathenry.

Those involved in organising the group don’t describe themselves as masters in any of the mystic paths, but they do see themselves as facilitators of a joint endeavour to further the mystic aspirations of the wider membership of the Kith of Yggdrasil.

The aim of the Mystic Working Group is to provide a forum, and point of contact within the Kith, for those members wishing to deepen and develop their understanding of all, or just one, of the various mystic arts.

It would be premature at this stage to say exactly how the group will work, as this will to some extent depend on the interest it attracts from the wider membership of the Kith, and the interests expressed by that membership. This could extend to mutual working, and the organisation of meetings.

To start with it intends to review books and develop articles upon mystic subjects for Sunwheel.

Those wishing to be associated with the group, or seeking to offer or look for advice across the mystic fields should contact:-
